5,000 more Kansans signed up for health insurance

Nearly 102,000 Kansans enrolled in the federal health insurance marketplace by the Feb. 1 deadline, about 5,000 more than last year, the Kansas Health Institute News Service reported. Nationwide, 12.7 million people signed up for coverage. Before the Affordable Care Act, the national uninsured rate ranged from 15 to 18 percent. Now it is less than 10 percent, though it is higher in states such as Kansas that have not expanded Medicaid coverage. – Phillip Brownlee
