From what I hear about the Iowa Democrat caucus results, Bernie Sanders might have a job for Kris Kobach.

The last real businessman as president was Herbert Hoover. How did that work for everyone?

Sen. Pat Roberts is acting like a spoiled brat in blocking confirmation of the secretary of the Army because President Obama wants to close Gitmo prison. Roberts needs to be reminded that Gitmo is in operation because of his unquestioning support of President Bush’s ill-conceived invasion of Iraq.

Eric Fanning is not a good nominee for Army secretary. His total experience in the Pentagon amounts to five years – barely sufficient for middle management. His reputation as a gay activist remains his primary qualification as Obama’s nominee.

Does anyone know how many of our state legislators own businesses that are LLCs or S-corporations, and are thus paying no state income taxes?

Small towns whining about the proposed school consolidation are getting what they deserved after they elected their conservative representatives. When costs are cut, eventually they cut something that is important to you.

Will creating a constitutional right to fish, hunt and trap make all of our city parks available for those activities?

Looks like we are getting a nice, new $33 million downtown library but won’t be able to get to it because of bad street maintenance.

I too use a cellphone to get information. However, it will never take the place of a good library. Kudos to the directors for initiating and pushing forward the effort, and to those council members who support it. It makes a statement of intelligence about them, as well as our city.

I finally saw someone using the bike lanes. He was riding down First Street the wrong way. I guess the City Council thinks spending another $300,000 for this guy is a good use of tax money. Also, why must taxpayers pay for safety features for bike owners?

Judging from the proliferation of food ads leading up to the Super Bowl, there should be a trophy for the viewer who eats the most and gains the most weight during the game.

If all 33,000 folks who viewed WSU president John Bardo’s football tweet donated $1,000 each, WSU could get a good start on reviving the football program. Go, Shocks.

I wish more people could experience Koch Arena before WSU men’s basketball games, as Shocker Sound plays the national anthem and everyone enthusiastically sings. They put the words up, which helps teach our younger generation, and the band is so good we all feel like great singers.

A big “Congrats!” to coach Gregg Marshall on his 221st win. And a big thumbs-down to all who left the game early. Shameful.
