Why doesn’t Obama just guarantee everyone a “free” college education? Or better, why don’t students work their way through college like I did? The taxpayers did not have to pay for my higher education.
Obama plans to have taxpayers pay for community college for everyone. Do you smell what I smell? He had Democrats controlling Congress for six years but waits until three days after the Republicans take over Congress to start this.
Obama’s popularity is on the rise, which correlates to the increased irrational criticism of the right-wing Republicans.
To the letter writer who wants to see “rational government” reinstated (Jan. 9 Letters to the Editor): Is that the government that makes up lies so we can invade other countries, torture prisoners, and kill and maim thousands of our citizens to promote the welfare of the rich and powerful?
Cuba has no money, so trading with Cuba requires countries to provide it with “trade credits.” Reportedly, Cuba has unpaid trade credits all over the world. Do we want to give away wheat just to bolster Kansas farmers?

We should not jump to conclusions when listening to 911 tapes from before John Paul Quintero was killed. We also should wait and see all the evidence. To me, Wichita police are jumping to conclusions by offering the calls as evidence.
New York police officers protesting by turning their backs to the mayor during funerals is rude and inexcusable. They are actually demonstrating their immaturity.
When you do something illegal, that is a crime. Then if the city of Wichita gives driver’s permits to illegals, wouldn’t the city be committing a crime?
Not offering driver’s education in the high schools is probably one of the main reasons there have been more accidents and deaths of young people.
The decision by New England Brewing Co. to use Gandhi’s name and portray him in such a thoughtless, insensitive manner is another example of the dumbing down of America. The beermaker’s employees probably don’t even know who Gandhi was.
So sorry about coach Bill Snyder’s failure in KSU’s bowl game. Maybe he should have called on Sen. Pat Roberts for some help.
After a week of bowls, pro basketball and college sports, I came to the conclusion that the most wasted time on TV are the pregame and postgame shows.
