Wichita has been without a police chief for a long time, since Norman Williams retired in September 2014. City Manager Robert Layton had to restart the search last fall. But that’s all over now, as Police Chief Gordon Ramsay starts his tenure Thursday with an orientation day. “It’s almost like this was meant to be. Everything has fallen in place, all along the line. The opportunities that are ahead of me, really, it gets me real excited,” he told a TV station Tuesday as he packed up his office in Duluth, Minn., where he was police chief for nearly a decade. It’s good to welcome Ramsay, his wife, Tracy, and two children to Wichita. Here’s hoping his tenure in Wichita will be defined much as it was in Duluth – by his successful efforts to build community relationships and trust. – Rhonda Holman
