Opinion Line Extra (Jan. 27)

As a Kansas Republican, I am surely voting for Donald Trump. He’s wrong about everything, too. It’s a natural fit. He could be our next governor.

After reading about a Republican legislator’s proposal to stop discrimination against Kansas gun dealers, I had to wonder if way too many cuckoo clocks were being installed in the Kansas Statehouse since Sam Brownback took office.

Getting yourself elected to the Legislature today is like a college graduate nabbing a good internship. “Serving” there is really just preparation. The real job – a very well-paying one – will be lobbying or consulting for a large, influential corporation or organization. That comes a few years later.

The sun is always shining in Brownback’s slush fund – I mean the state’s highway fund.

Why wouldn’t Brownback ignore the budget problems in the State of the State address? After all, he has ignored them every day of his entire career as governor.

In business if you fail, you fix it or go out of business. In government if you fail you claim you just weren’t given enough money. You get more money and the results get worse – until it collapses from its own weight. How far is the U.S. from that point?

I wish we had separation of church and state in Kansas. The “sin taxes” in this state are outrageous.

In these perilous times, it was so encouraging to hear the words of our strong leader President Obama in his State of the Union speech. His courage to deal with reality in the face of adversity is admired.

I predict Obama will vacate Gitmo and give it to Cuba, which will rent the fully operational naval base to Russia, China or Iran. Still comfy with Obama?

I’m boycotting BET due to its lack of diversity.

Those who report the television news do not have anyone’s back. They report what has happened. They prevent nothing.

Regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership: Beware of the wolf that comes in sheep’s clothing.

The cost of fuel in transportation, whether gasoline, fuel oil, coal or natural gas, is down significantly. Yet the costs of products have not decreased – the major reason being corporate American greed.

On racism and sexism: Our government needs to start with taking the “race” and “sex” check boxes off of all government forms you fill out. This would be a huge step to equality.

To the person who is stealing our newspaper: Either let us read it first and we will put it back in the driveway for you, or when you are finished you could put it back in our driveway so we could enjoy our newspaper.
