Opinion Line Extra (Jan. 19)

More people should eat their foods as medicine so they won’t have to eat medicine as their food.

Now I understand why the city of Wichita never has any money to make improvements. While I was driving home from work, with the top down, 60 degrees outside, I was passed by a city dump truck putting salt down and realized there was only a 20 percent chance of flurries.

Iran just released five American prisoners. That must be frustrating for neo-con chicken hawks and the Israeli radicals who keep ranting that Iran is ruled by irrational radicals, and try to push the U.S. to attack Iran as a pawn for Israel’s politicos.

I can think of two benefits for electing a Republican president in November. One, Gov. Sam Brownback and the Legislature will have to look elsewhere to blame the state’s problems. Two, columnist Charles Krauthammer will have to find something new to complain about.

WSU professor emeritus John H. Wilson shouldn’t worry (“Brownback’s merit pay plan misunderstands role of teachers,” Jan. 12 Opinion). An equitable merit pay system for teachers can be devised that rewards for class progress relative to each class’ starting point. Such systems are common in the private, nonunion sector.

Attention, all you marketing geniuses out there: I realize you were taught that loud, obnoxious commercials get people’s attention. That was before remotes were developed with mute buttons.

To the person who laughed at the people who spent money on the Powerball and didn’t win: You must have one big inferiority complex to make something as trivial as that a way to feel like you’re better than everybody else.
