Opinion Line Extra (Jan. 14)

After watching the State of the Union address, I think it is time for a constitutional amendment to guarantee that a community organizer is not qualified to hold the office of the presidency.

Regarding the president’s State of the Union message: The community organizer strikes again. Apparently it’s all he’s good for.

My grandson asked me if I knew the national debt was nearly $19 trillion. I asked him what the national debt would be without the Bush tax cuts in 2002. Zero. I didn’t mention our state budget woes.

I wonder why Republicans don’t have any political comedy programming like “The Daily Show,” “The Nightly Show,” etc. On second thought, programming like that would be opposite of their doom and gloom message.

One reader asked whether “most voters really want a vulgar, profane, insulting liar for president.” Who are we talking about – Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump? If it’s Hillary, we also get Bill as a twofer free of charge.

If you believe in women’s rights, the last person you want in the White House is another Clinton, remembering what little Obama has done for blacks.

I am boggled that someone believes that the president’s statement that the United States was “born suspicious of some distant authority” represents a twisted view of our country’s birth. Why do you think the American colonies rebelled against the British government?

Closing the border temporarily to any group with individuals who want to kill Americans upholds American values. It indicates to the world that the United States is strong and cautious in favor of its citizens. Groups that are “honest and proud” should deal with rogue persons in their own countries.

Examples of disingenuous behavior in Kansas: Brownback supports education. Americans for Prosperity represents you. Tax cuts for businesses are better for you than tax cuts on food you need to survive.

Republican legislators are paid off with campaign contributions by the corporations and banks that took away your job and house, and you still vote for them?

I think I finally get it. Sam Brownback, Susan Wagle and Ray Merrick are really basketball coaches, and if we would all get in the team spirit, this budget debacle would become a win instead of a loss. Suddenly I feel much better. Welcome to the Land of Oz.

Very few people could do an accurate job of recounting events of 15 years ago, but many of them seem to be sure about 2,000 years ago. Yeah, right.

I watched an old “Tonight Show” featuring Robin Williams as guest and was struck by a tragic irony. He and Christopher Reeve, “closer than brothers” since their days at Juilliard, both became household names by playing men from other planets – Mork from Ork and Superman from Krypton.
