State tax collections still lagging estimates
So far the surging U.S. economy is not lifting Kansas out of its budget problems – and is unlikely to do so. December state revenue collections were $15 million less than expected, due to lower corporate tax revenue. In November, the state sharply reduced its revenue projections for this fiscal year. But tax collections since July 1 are still $12 million, or 0.4 percent, short of those lowered expectations. – Phillip Brownlee
