Ensure that airport parking costs are fairly shared

The Airport Advisory Board reversed itself Monday and recommended that free parking continue at Wichita Eisenhower National Airport for some government officials and tourism and community development leaders, with one board member describing earlier criticism of the long-standing perk as “juvenile.” But with the new $40 million garage being paid for by users, who are charged as much as $15 a day, the Wichita City Council needs to maximize revenues and ensure the cost burden is fairly shared. When the council takes up the issue next week, it will need to have a sound reason for continuing to comp some people and not others. – Rhonda Holman
