Opinion Line Extra (Dec. 25)

I found it interesting that on Dec. 9 we were informed that water rates would increase by 5 percent. We were then informed on Dec. 10 that our heating bills were to decrease by “double digits.” I hope my budget can work that out.

An identity is stolen every two seconds. A home is broken into every 22 seconds. A car is stolen every 45 seconds. I feel sorry for the authorities’ forefingers, what with all those wrists being slapped.

It is unlawful to back into parking places in Wichita. If I pull straight through, that is not backing in, right? Let the city prove how my vehicle came to be oriented that way.

I will support any law that keeps guns away from terrorists, gang members and the undiagnosed mentally ill. All I see being presented are laws to restrict law-abiding gun owners.

It looks like the economic policies of the current crop of Republican candidates for president are the same as George W Bush’s. I’d rather not have the economy crash again.

Obama won’t take the “raise the price of oil” neocon bait to engage in more Bush wars. He truly believes in “speak softly and carry a big stick.” The neocons favor continuously beating our stick against a stone wall until both the stick and our society are splintered and unrecognizable.

Just think of all the lives lost in our foreign wars. So far these leading candidates offered up by the Republicans would serve only as a dishonor to their ultimate sacrifice.

Donald Trump is the best thing America has had happen to a presidential race.

Most Americans agree with Trump’s call for a temporary pause in Muslim entry into the U.S. until we fix our visa entry and immigration vetting systems.

Gov. Sam Brownback said he doesn’t support the Trump ban on blocking all Muslim immigration to U.S. Yet he won’t allow refugees from Syria, or give them any state funding. Isn’t that about the same anti-Muslim bigotry as Trump?

Am I the only one who remembers that in the influx of Cuban refugees of the early 1960s, Castro pulled a fast one on the USA by emptying out Cuba’s mental hospitals and prisons, sending them to the USA among the good people who were seeking political asylum?

Is there some reason that “truth-in-advertising” laws don’t apply to political advertisements? Are there even any truth-in-advertising laws still on the books today?

If you did not see Dolly Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors” on NBC recently, you and your family missed a great movie. Go to NBC.com and find time to view it together.

Who decided to change the comics page? It is no fun, and I miss “My Answer” by Billy Graham. Bring back the old one, please.
