What used to be the joy of Christmas has turned into the job of Christmas.

It’s a shame the folks in this country cannot get as excited about the birth of our savior as they do about “Star Wars.”

Hearing drug-using, immoral rock singers sing “O Holy Night” is about as hypocritical as you can get. However, God loves everybody and gives you the opportunity to repent until the day you die. Let your soul feel its worth.

I am a proud, secure Christian who is sick of overly sensitive, insecure Christians who get so easily offended if anyone recognizes the month of December has holidays for several religious groups. Christ reached out in kindness to those unlike him. Why can’t you? Happy holidays to all.

If you thought you were alone and forgotten for Christmas, remember, it’s not about friends, family or material gifts. You want to give the greatest gift and receive the greatest in return. Have fidelity to the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s the greatest gift you can give – to God.

Thank you to the lady who paid for my groceries at Aldi on East 21st Street. I didn’t get her name. I had $115 stolen from my purse while there. After groceries, the rest was going to the Salvation Army fund. Not now.

A gentleman behind me at a store told the cashier to just run my groceries in with his. How generous and kind of him. He lifted my spirit, and I smiled the rest of the day. I will pay it forward.

The postal workers (at least in my north neighborhood post office) are so kind, and they go out of their way to help people. They can never be replaced by e-mail.

Thank you to The Wichita Eagle for publishing and inserting the Christmas story. May God protect our homeland and keep us in His care.

Thanks for the beautiful insert in the Dec. 13 Eagle. I was overwhelmed by the lovely Christmas scenes in full color, with the Christmas verses. Thank you for the heartening encouragement it gave all of us.

The 2016 Wichita Eagle calendar is great. A special “thank you” to Travis Heying, Jaime Green, Roy Wenzl, Mike Hutmacher and Brian Corn for providing the wonderful photos. And, thanks, too, to The Eagle for providing the calendar.

Kudos to our Eagle carrier, Valerie Hermes. In the first ice storm of this year she got my paper within 1 foot of the garage door, saving me a treacherous trek down the driveway. Great job, as usual.

I have a love-hate relationship. I love love and hate hate.

It feels so good to stand with 10,000-plus people in the Roundhouse and sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” – patriotism in abundance.
