Ramsay is a good choice as Wichita police chief
Congratulations to Gordon Ramsay on being hired as Wichita police chief. Ramsay, who has headed the Duluth, Minn., police department for the past 10 years, seems well-suited to lead the Wichita Police Department and its 836 employees. During a public forum last week, he showed good communication skills and a strong commitment to community policing and “relationship building.” Ramsay, who starts his new job in Wichita on Jan. 28, will face challenges, including improving communication and trust between the department and the community. The department also must finish equipping all its field officers with body cameras, which was supposed to be completed by the end of this year but is waiting on federal funding. The process of replacing former Police Chief Norman Williams was slow and circuitous. But it has ended well. – Phillip Brownlee
