More veterans can get care closer to home

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced new rules this month that will allow more veterans to access private health services closer to home. The Veterans Choice Program allows veterans to receive treatment in local clinics if they face an “undue burden” traveling to a VA medical facility. Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler/Hutchinson, praised the expanded eligibility criteria: “With these changes to the choice program, more Kansas veterans will be able to get care in their own communities instead of driving to Wichita, Denver or Amarillo to receive routine health care checkups.” – Phillip Brownlee
