Gasoline prices of less than $2 a gallon are certainly a nice gift to motorists – especially those driving over the river and through the woods to Christmas gatherings. If prices stay this low next year, which is unlikely, it would be equivalent to a $1,500 pay raise per U.S. household. Though the low prices hurt domestic energy producers, they are helping fuel increased consumer spending and are a key reason why the U.S. economy is growing at its fastest pace in 11 years. And as a bonus, they are weakening Russian President Vladimir Putin. – Phillip Brownlee
