Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler/Hutchinson, was kicked off two committees in 2012 by then-House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, for being a troublemaker. But procedural changes made by Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., at the urging of the House Freedom Caucus led to Huelskamp winning a seat Thursday on the House Steering Committee – “traditionally a bastion of loyalists to the speaker,” as CNN put it. Huelskamp said: “It shows the Republican Conference is listening to the conservative heart of the party when you put someone like me on the Steering Committee.” – Rhonda Holman
