Opinion Line (Dec. 24)

Once Cubans start getting cellphones and start photographing and sharing any government abuse, the government won’t be in control.

I despise our president, but his policy of normalizing relations with Cuba is right on track.

Nixon opens talks with China and he is hailed by Republicans. Obama talks to Cuba and they recoil in hatred. Despite the gains for U.S. goods, travel and energy, Republicans want to stop it. Typical.

The point is that a President Romney would never normalize relations with Cuba. Obama wanted in on the act Clinton started with Vietnam.

Since our government refuses to attempt control of Hollywood junk, maybe we should be thanking the North Koreans.

Do we need to get an OK from Iraq to release the film “American Sniper”? Some theaters may be afraid to show it.

Our government can’t put together a functioning website in three years to sell insurance, but it can analyze a computer hacking at Sony by another country in just hours. Was the Obamacare disaster planned?

Computers are the downfall of civilization as we know it.

Respect – a lot of problems today stem from a lack of this, and it started some years back. No respect for the president, police, teachers, parents. It starts in the home.

I think I’ll run for president in 2016. My campaign promise: If elected, I’ll just quietly cash my paychecks and leave you all alone. At the end of four years, you won’t even remember my name or recognize my face. Deal?

The city continues to amaze me. We seem to have money for tax breaks and forgivable loans, yet we cut back city services such as closing a library branch because we don’t have the funds. I keep wondering why we pay taxes.

Sen. Jerry Moran voted with Sen. Ted Cruz because that is what the majority in Kansas want. May I suggest liberals move to Colorado? You just aren’t happy here.

Gov. Sam Brownback should not be allowed to steal from transportation funds or reduce the state’s KPERS retirement contributions to pay off his gambling debts (also known as unthought-out tax cuts).

Maybe Brownback can change KPERS into kippers so at least retirees will have something to live on.

Is there a bakery anywhere in this town that makes a decent-tasting cocktail bun?
