Kind gesture receives national recognition

Congratulations to the Wichita State University cheerleaders for being among honorees at the national Musial Awards, which recognize sports-related acts defined by class, excellence, humility and generosity. At last spring’s Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball tournament, the Loyola University cheer squad was able to send only one cheerleader. The WSU squad ended up asking her to cheer with them during timeouts. News of the kind gesture and good sportsmanship quickly spread. The WSU squad received the award at a gala Saturday in St. Louis and will be recognized again at the WSU men’s home basketball game on Wednesday. Way to go, Shockers. – Phillip Brownlee
