Opinion Line Extra (Dec. 22)

Gov. Sam Brownback needs to remember that our state’s economic problems all began with the Bush recession. So if he’s going to blame someone for our state’s budget problems, blame Bush.

It appears that 2016 is going to be a great year. Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush. God help us. And the alternative seems to be the senator who is a tiny bit Native American, Elizabeth Warren. The media will have a great time. The rest of us? Yuck.

Unless you’ve been too busy being distracted, you have probably noticed that every time there a major story negatively affecting the current White House occupant, they create another less negative situation to distract us and have their media lapdogs cover only it.

Old man Bush and Dick Cheney equal good old CIA boys.

Jerry Kiser hit the nail on the head at the end of his commentary (“Terrorism comes from despair,” Dec. 17 Opinion). It’s worth repeating: “Our greatest enemy is not Islam. It is poverty, illiteracy and despair.” People, take notice.

People need to get their facts correct. Obama didn’t lose Iraq and Afghanistan because he stopped the torture treatment. Those conflicts were lost during the Bush years due to his incompetence.

Do you know what real torture is? It is watching TV to listen to Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi provide their warped view of reality.

The real “torture” is hearing the Bush administration defend its actions.

Liberals baffle me. They seem willing to accept and protect anyone except a fellow American with a conservative view of anything. The vicious assault on the CIA is a good example. They claim CIA agents are bad people for helping protect them from people who would behead them in an instant.

I used to look forward to starting my day by reading the Opinion Line. Since the election, it appears to have been shanghaied by the bitter, ill-informed election losers. You lost. Move on.

It is hard to believe the negative comments about improving relations with Cuba. What is the problem? We already have set up trade and other relationships with Vietnam, which killed thousands of our military personnel, as well as with Germany, which killed millions during World War II.

The paper that The Eagle is printed on is white. The ink on the paper is black. Most people I know fall somewhere in between those two extremes.

I was a teenager in the 1950s, and we did have some silly fads. The thing is, though, they were easily reversible – once we came to our senses. The fads of today – especially disfiguring tattoos and piercings – are bound to cause a lot of regret.
