Still no need to give Kobach prosecutorial powers
If Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s re-election endorsed his efforts to require photo ID to vote and proof of citizenship to register in Kansas, it doesn’t justify his stated need for prosecutorial powers as “the final piece in the puzzle in terms of preventing voter fraud.” State lawmakers have resisted his plea to let his office initiate prosecutions, preferring to leave it to county and federal prosecutors to pursue such cases. That remains the proper division of duties. For one thing, secretary of state is a record-keeping job that should more than keep Kobach busy. – Rhonda Holman
