Don’t forget hometown retailers this year

Though it was born as a big business marketing strategy – by American Express – Small Business Saturday serves a righteous cause in spotlighting the unique retailers that drive local economies. Many are participants in online commerce as well, but are anchored by brick-and-mortar outlets that specialize in one-on-one customer service and need strong hometown support. On Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and throughout the holiday shopping season, we should take stock of the stores that serve and help define our communities and neighborhoods – and shop in them. – Rhonda Holman
