Opinion Line (Dec. 19)

A man whose government tortures is a torturer. The dark side sows fear. Turn toward the light.

The Bush administration’s “enhanced interrogation” (torture) after Sept. 11 was retaliation and anger-based, producing little useful information and lowering us to the level of the terrorists.

We should not expect the CIA to fight for second place when we are at war.

Taliban terrorists shoot up a school and kill more than 140 kids and teachers, and you liberal fools are still wondering why the CIA used EITs to get information. And if you believe the Democrat drivel that no useful information came of it, you are even bigger fools.

Pass those Cuban cigars.

Nonprofit giving and arena attendance are down and the sales tax failed for one reason – jobs. After the general aviation layoffs and Boeing leaving town, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to say we have a lot of unemployed people who don’t have the money for anything listed above.

There were no lies told in order to get the arena built in Wichita. Big-name acts were promised and delivered. Just because they are not the big names you may wish to see doesn’t make them any less relevant in the world of entertainment.

Wichita is a wonderful place. That’s why the city keeps hiring consultants from all over the country to tell us how to do what someone else does and make us look and feel like somewhere else.

If the City Council wants more money, it should start small by ticketing and collecting fines from the drivers who do not turn on their vehicle headlights when required by law.

Young people probably won’t remember this, but there was a time in this country when people were honest. You used to be able to pull into a gas station, pump your gas and then go in and pay.

There are way too many Kansans who think not being Republican is bad.

The governor can claim that his policies created thousands of new jobs, but he can’t prove it – there are just too many variables at work. Any good accountant, however, can prove that his tax cuts have led directly to the fiscal disaster that Kansas has become.

Brownback claims that his real-live experiment will take time to recharge the economy. I don’t see any businesses breaking the sound barrier to move to Kansas. When are we supposed to see results? 2020? 2030? 2040?

Does anybody really believe that WSU would finish in the top four in the Big 12?
