Being ‘politically incorrect’ no excuse

GOP presidential candidates Ben Carson and Donald Trump proudly proclaim they are not “politically correct,” as if that shields them from accountability for whatever crazy or offensive remarks they make. Similarly, Sedgwick County Commissioner Karl Peterjohn prefaced his “public warning” for citizens about the “Islamist threat in this country” Wednesday by saying, “It’s going to be politically incorrect.” But when did declaring yourself “politically incorrect” start excusing anything you might feel moved to say, no matter how clueless, bigoted or rude? – Rhonda Holman
