Opinion Line Extra (Nov. 20)

We read accounts every day of the shooting of unarmed people who have followed the “lawful orders” of police and are now dead in spite of it. And yet we are still told that these police were following the proper procedures.

Over the past eight years, I’ve had several encounters with Wichita police officers. They were polite and respectful every time, as was I. Your attitude almost always largely determines how it will go. Also remember, the badge they wear means that they represent the law.

It takes only minutes for our president to go to the podium to declare that our police are the cause of all our problems. Yet he cannot or will not blame Paris or any other Muslim terrorist attack on Muslim terrorists. He is only capable of blaming our police or military.

The decision by many of our nation’s Republican governors to refuse to accept Syrian refugees is about as un-American as one can get. Obviously, the last phrase of our national anthem doesn’t apply to these cowards. They’ve already surrendered to the terrorists.

So, if the reality is that governors can’t stop the federal government from relocating refugees, why did The Eagle editorial board go on a rant about it?

For all you bleeding hearts demanding that the Syrian refugees be allowed in this country: You’ll live to regret it when they start blowing up themselves and your neighbors in terrorist attacks.

I do not believe that Obama would think of the Paris terrorist attack as a “setback” if his daughters had been killed in the attack. That was an insult to the French people.

When will Congress step up and support the president in this ISIS fight? Declare a war, shut up or get off the pot. This situation is much, much more complicated and messy than the GOP loudmouth simpletons claim.

Fox News makes America look weak, not strong. Its latest news reporting is that all lives really don’t matter as it broadcasts that only Christian refugees should be allowed into America, not anyone else.

Gov. Sam Brownback opposes abortion, but couldn’t care less about the needs of children born into poverty – of which I was one.

When most of the national news media start their day, they ask, “What did the Republicans do wrong today and what did the Democrats do right?” That is their version of fair and balanced.

Why is it necessary for the local CBS, ABC, Fox and NBC affiliates to interrupt shows for bad weather? Just run a message across the bottom of the screen saying where the storm is, and we can decide if we need to turn to the Weather Channel. Give the drama a rest.
