Opinion Line Extra (Nov. 19)

I’ve always wondered why so many generals are immortalized with statues and various other things named after them, when all they did was order people to their deaths.

It appears that the French president has taken the lead on the war against terror. But we all know that it is really Obama who is leading from (as he says) “behind.”

The tragedy in Paris is horrible and our inaction is, too. Obama will be viewed poorly in history, and one of the all-time presidential miscues was calling ISIS a “JV” team. He has very poor advisers, and not enough sense not to say it.

Gov. Sam Brownback must have forgotten that we are all carrying guns, thanks to his wisdom and that of his party and the NRA. Why else would he be so afraid of a few refugees?

Mary and Joseph were refugees. Christ fed refugees. Let’s stop pretending Brownback and his pseudo-Christian backers are truly interested in being Christ-like.

Is permissiveness a liberal core value, or does it just seem so?

Liberals are complaining that progressives are giving them a bad name. Say what?

Liberals’ “breaking up families” argument against the deportation of illegals is utterly ridiculous and meaningless. Those who choose to illegally enter our country are responsible for whatever breaking up of the family occurs. Further, how is that possibly our problem?

How about we make the legislators’ 8.5 percent allowance raise a performance raise? Hold the raise until we can get through one school year without hearing anything on the news about education funding.

It’s disgraceful the way the vets of the Bushes’ wars are treated.

If truth serum were injected into the veins of presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz, he would implode.

The Democrats and media are much better at choosing the Republican presidential nominee than the Republican Party is.

How long would it take for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to be relieved of command and admitted to a VA psych hospital if he behaved like the commander in chief wannabe Donald Trump during his last Iowa pep rally?

Something is really crazy when a presidential candidate spends his time blasting a company because it changed the color of a cup. On the other hand, it will attract the support of those similarly inclined. Will it be in his platform?

Stop worrying about the red cup and other contrived issues. Real issues can’t be ignored without serious long-term consequences for you and your family.

I was glad to read that columnist Leonard Pitts admits he’s like Charlie Brown (Nov. 16 Opinion), doing and thinking the same stupid things over and over again and expecting a different result. We kind of knew that already.
