Given the “shellacking” his party received in the November elections, it was no surprise that President Obama was selected by Washington Post writer Chris Cillizza as having the “worst year” in Washington, D.C. Cillizza wrote that the problems that had been building throughout Obama’s second term “all came crashing down around him” in 2014. Cillizza selected soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., as having the best year. “McConnell has the chance not only to lead and (try to) unite his party, but also to redefine for the broader public what it means to be a Republican,” Cillizza wrote. – Phillip Brownlee
