Roberts quote listed among year’s most notable
A campaign stumble by Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., tied for 10th place on the latest annual list of notable quotes released by a Yale Law School librarian: “Every time I get an opponent – I mean, every time I get a chance – I’m home.” Roberts made the comment during a July 3 radio interview, raising voters’ concerns about whether he spends enough time in Kansas. First and third places for 2014 went to phrases related to individuals whose deaths at the hands of police launched protests: “I can’t breathe!” and “Hands up, don’t shoot!” Other highlights: “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” (No. 2) and Hillary Clinton’s “We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt” (No. 6). – Rhonda Holman
