No denying the brutality of U.S. torture

The CIA is denying that it deliberately misled Congress and the White House about its torture of terrorism suspects. But as a report released Tuesday by the Senate Intelligence Committee documents, there is no denying the brutality of what was done in our country’s name in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The report details that the torture was more widespread and inhuman than previously disclosed. As committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., wrote in the foreword to the report, the CIA employed “brutal interrogation techniques in violation of U.S. law, treaty obligations and our values.” – Phillip Brownlee
