Opinion Line (Dec. 9)

As I got onto I-235 south from the new 13th Street entrance and then enjoyed taking Kellogg across town, I was impressed with the progress Wichita has made with great highway improvements. Thank you to those making these improvements possible.

Wichita has too many parks. Some parks are little used, being mostly vacant most of the time. The United Nations’ Agenda 21 wants cities to create even more parks, but we have trouble maintaining the ones we have.

So Bob Knight wants to run again for mayor. I thought we had the cronyism man out of our lives. He should stay retired. Vote for Karl Peterjohn for mayor. He says “no,” is smart with money and helps the city, not his friends.

The president changing defense secretaries as often as he changes his underwear tells me he is having trouble finding people who agree with his ultraliberal approach.

Monthly job growth is booming. More people are working than were before the start of the recession. The stock market keeps setting record highs. Gas is less than $2.50 a gallon. Yep, the Obama strategy sure is destroying the American economy.

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., said, “If they don’t like (Obamacare), they can unelect us.” They don’t and they did exactly that.

A heads-up to the news media: America is no longer a British colony, and the majority of Americans are not interested in William and Kate’s visit to our country. If people want to keep tabs on the royal family, they can read about it in the National Enquirer.

The Intrust Bank Arena managers said the reality is that Wichita is close to Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Kansas City, so we don’t get some of the big concerts. Too bad nobody brought that up before we spent all that money building the arena. Oh, wait – we did.

Did it bother anyone else that the basketball goals’ posts at Intrust Bank Arena were blue and white, the exact colors of Saint Louis? What about painting them black and gold for WSU? On TV it looked like we were playing on Saint Louis’ court.

Whoever was broadcasting the Shocker game on Saturday should be fired. It looked like they were filming from the rafters.

I remember living life according to my parents, then according to school rules. After that came the workplace, soon replaced by life-altering health care plans. All have been trumped by ESPN. Tuesday night’s 6 p.m. game time for WSU is not so handy for us working stiffs.
