King: Need to fight to change tax policy
Senate Vice President Jeff King, R-Independence, thinks the Legislature will have to change Kansas’ tax policy that exempts business pass-through income. “You can have a low tax code where everybody pays,” King told the Chanute school board last week. “You can’t have a low tax code where 400,000 entities in the state pay nothing.” But King also said that Gov. Sam Brownback is dead set against any changes to the tax plan – even though 61 percent of Kansans consider it a “failure” or “tremendous failure” in terms of economic growth, according to the latest Kansas Speaks survey. “I think it’s going to be a fight, but it’s a fight we have to win,” King said. – Phillip Brownlee
