More housing for domestic violence victims

Good for local religious and nonprofit organizations and their donors for stepping up to increase and improve the housing options for victims of domestic violence. StepStone and Mennonite Housing broke ground Wednesday on a new transitional housing complex. The Sisters of St. Joseph convent also is opening as the Mount, with Catholic Charities having begun accepting referrals last month and planning to have more bridge housing at the facility available in the near future. The YMCA Women’s Crisis Center also is looking at ways to house more victims. Leaving an abusive relationship can be difficult and frightening. When victims reach out for help, the community needs to have the capacity to respond. – Phillip Brownlee
