Opinion Line (Nov. 9)

The purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to limit the power of the federal government, not impose limits on the American people.


If you control the questions, you control the information. Republicans don’t like big government, but it’s ironic how much they resemble Big Brother.


The great thing about science is that, left to its normal method of operation, it’s self-correcting. Only when it gets politicized does it get corrupted – for example, global warming hype.


Boeing, other aircraft makers and American universities have transferred enough technology to the Chinese that they have built their own commercial aircraft. Say goodbye to more American aircraft jobs. Americans don’t learn from their mistakes.


We are lucky to have Richard Ranzau to represent us at the county, and most people agree. Right is right.


Way to go, Kansas City Royals and fans. Unlike the East and West coast teams, they celebrated with Midwest values without burning cars or destroying property. Class act.


Think how much better our children would be if we would place our teachers on as high a pedestal as those grown men who hit a leather-covered ball with a wooden stick.


Some blame funding cuts for the lower math scores in our schools. Talk to your kids’ teachers privately. It’s Common Core. Texas and Oklahoma threw it out, and Kansas should, too. Wherever Common Core lives, math tutoring businesses thrive.


Conservatives are fond of saying no one should get anything free, that working for it builds character. Yet when it comes to investment returns such as the stock market, greed is the builder of character.


Elizabeth Warren wants to send a $580 check to all seniors and disabled vets, and to pay for it by eliminating tax write-offs of performance-based executive bonuses. Because being a good progressive is about giving away other people’s money.


Since columnist Leonard Pitts is so good at pointing the finger with his race statistics, and at law enforcement, I would like to know the percentage of crimes committed by race per capita.


There is no such thing as civilians in a war zone. Combatants come from their ranks.


Maybe if the pharmaceutical industry didn’t have 30 minutes of TV ads during an hour newscast, it wouldn’t have to charge so much for medicine.
