Opinion Line (Nov. 8)

The schools should not be responsible for teaching students “soft skills.” These things should be instilled by parents. Why have to pay more for nonteaching positions when we are out of money already? The government is trying to control too much.

Kansas revenue falls short by $15 million in October, and the state is spending how many millions on a government efficiency study? Is anyone steering this ship?

Are the people we’re electing that stupid at math? You can’t make a budget on what you hope to make. You make it on what you’ve been making. Cutting spending is the only practical option.

You think we have it bad in Kansas? Just consider how bad it would be if we had elected the bespectacled Democrat Paul Davis as governor. Be very thankful.

Indiana giving advice to Kansas on health care? That’s the blind and stubborn giving advice to the blind and stubborn.

Bravo to Hutchinson for taking a stand against vapor cigarettes. It disgusts me to see people puffing away on them in areas where smoking is prohibited. They are cigarettes and should be treated as such.

The promotion of attracting businesses is projecting the city as the slick-haired, shiny-shoed capital of the Midwest. Wichita used to be more like the laid-back, ponytailed artist capital. The overkill is trampling out the mojo.

In the past month I’ve seen a UFO, a Sasquatch and the Loch Ness monster. I have not seen bicyclists using the new bicycle lanes around downtown Wichita.

It must be the heavy weight of bearing the survival of the American way of life on his shoulders that allows that advocate of humility, Charles Koch, to participate without embarrassment in a whitewashing campaign of historical revisionism-by-omission clouded in a haze of ideological purity.

So Koch doesn’t like job licensing. How ridiculous. Who wants an unlicensed electrician, HVAC service person, plumber, hairdresser, home builder, airline pilot, or X-ray tech working for them or on them?

I figured out why the rich get richer: We keep paying them. Garth Brooks should be paying us to see him. Koch’s book should be free. Koch should be paying people to hear him speak. The imbalance continues for the little guy.

The new Bush campaign slogan, “Jeb can fix it,” is reminiscent of a local vet clinic’s advertisement for controlling the pet population.

A confident, pro-American Donald Trump is what you get after eight years of a pessimistic, anti-American Barack Obama.

The choices for our next president are pitiful, on both sides. I declare myself a political atheist – I have no faith in any of them.

It is my goal in life to be that house that passes out the full-size versions of all candy.

Since Kansas has no major league sports teams, thanks to Missouri for sharing its Royals and World Series title with us. Go, Chiefs.
