Opinion Line (Dec. 8)

It would be nice to list the true valued amount of money, American lives, equipment, doctors, medical supplies, shared technology and such that we’ve given to the world, then compare that number with the $18 trillion debt we owe. I bet it’s close.

Republicans hyperventilated about the president acting where they refuse. But do they act? No. Doing anything approximating progress violates their do-nothing approach to legislating. Instead, congressional Republicans went begging to those “unelected” and “unaccountable” judges they deride. They hope some jurist will do something else they hate: go “activist” on them.

Pat Roberts said he was going to stop Harry Reid. I am still waiting. Maybe he is going to stop him and say, “Boy, did I take the idiots in Kansas for a ride when I bought my re-election.”

What’s with all the whining from the teachers about having to work on Dec. 22? It’s just the start of “winter break.” If it were the start of the Christmas holiday, I might be more sympathetic.

I’m sick of business owners advertising for us to buy “holiday” gifts. They should stop trying to earn an extra buck off of a holiday they don’t believe in or respect. Avoid companies that for greedy reasons are disrespecting a celebration many of their potential customers hold dear.

Former Wichita Mayor Bob Knight is a lot like a migraine headache – you think you’ve gotten rid of him, but he just keeps coming back. At least his candidacy simplifies the decision making – whoever runs against him will get my vote.

Gas in Oklahoma is cheap in part because of low gasoline taxes. This also translates into crummy roads. Drive south into Oklahoma and it’s like going into a Third World country roadwise.

Does anyone pay attention to yellow lights anymore? Let’s remove the yellow light from all traffic lights. In fact, let’s get rid of the red light, too. If the green light is on, go.

People who cannot drive at least the speed limit should not be allowed on the roads.

The Eric Church concert was great. The lousy seats did not matter, because the people stood the entire event.

There are names for you when you take condiments, handfuls of napkins, bathroom items, etc., from restaurants or other businesses to supply your home, or bring your own cup and get drinks without paying – thief, criminal, lowlife, the walking damned.
