Opinion Line (Nov. 5)
The Republicans’ plan to cut taxes even more in the face of $18 trillion in federal debt failed to explain how they found that magic wand that will be needed to make this succeed.
The Republican mumbo jumbo is: Cut taxes on the rich and revenues will increase from economic growth. But since the introduction of Reaganomics, there has not been a shred of evidence to support this pipe dream of the rich.
Not only do I “believe” cutting taxes will stimulate the economy, but it works every time – provided you’re not engaged in major overseas military action. Repeat to yourself: “Increased government confiscation of our money does not solve America’s problems.”
It appears that all groups (alums, liberal arts, fine arts, etc.) except the “techs” have been sidelined at WSU. The golf course is being torn up to accommodate big business instead of adding student housing. Now Grace Chapel has been ruined.
It looks like Wichita Area Technical College can’t stand on its own. If a merger with WSU works, I hope they can offer better programs.
For 10 to 15 years, WATC has been fading away thanks to its leaders during this time. They wanted a “college” instead of a “vocational school,” and they might get their wish. It may turn out to be a blessing for a real trade school, Wichita Technical Institute.
Those having undergone rigmarole to enroll in college yet lacking know-how to correctly complete a simple voter registration probably do us a favor by not voting. History educators are not there to hold the hands of students of voting age. On your phone, input “get Kansas birth certificate.”
Wichita’s new and improved airport is still the slowest in the country to get luggage to the baggage carousel. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I came from a California city where bicycle lanes wiped out numerous blocks of street parking for licensed, taxpaying vehicles. Bicycles are not taxed and add nothing monetarily to road maintenance. No representation without taxation.
Only in Wichita do we fill in a hole, throw down some plastic chairs and call it a park.
I do not like the changes to the puzzle page. You have ruined my morning. Please bring back the original crossword puzzle.
I love the new crossword puzzle. The old one had become so repetitive and easy I could do it in my sleep. This one requires me to think and actually look up a few things in the dictionary. Thanks for the change.
