Schmidt correct about immigration reform

AP

It remains to be seen whether a lawsuit by Kansas and several other states against President Obama’s executive action on immigration will succeed. But Attorney General Derek Schmidt is correct in saying that Obama should have continued to work with Congress to pass immigration reform instead of acting unilaterally. “Congress has a constitutional and a moral obligation to fix our country’s broken immigration system,” Schmidt said in a statement announcing the lawsuit. He added that “frustration arising from political gridlock is not an excuse for a president to bypass Congress, ignoring the law and the Constitution.” Members of Congress need to do their job; Obama shouldn’t do it for them. – Phillip Brownlee
