It wasn’t surprising that a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit claiming the science standards for Kansas public schools promote atheism and violate the religious freedoms of students and parents. As U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree ruled Tuesday, the plaintiffs couldn’t show how they were harmed by the standards, which were developed by Kansas, 25 other states and the National Research Council. Crabtree also noted that the standards are guidelines and that local school districts still control what’s taught in classrooms, Associated Press reported. Expect another attempt to block education standards in the Legislature next year. – Phillip Brownlee
