Opinion Line (Oct. 22)

I applaud Sedgwick County Commission Chairman Richard Ranzau for standing up against the liberals and representing the majority of taxpayers and their desires – not rubber-stamping, like the last commission majority. I am tired of the government enabling people to not try and better themselves.

We elect a county commissioner with a platform that includes elimination of waste and reduction of handouts. When those principles are followed, some scream “recall.” They sound much like children responding to a “no” from parents with an “I hate you.”

Ranzau is right. Americans are entitled. Illegals are not.

Ranzau’s decisions affect everyone in Sedgwick County, so why would only voters in his district get to sign a recall petition?

Why stop with recalling just Ranzau? Get the petition to recall the other two warlocks on the coven and let the rational ones, Commissioners Tim Norton and Dave Unruh, get some work done.

Rep. Mike Pompeo should be ashamed to be spending taxpayer monies to pursue a political smear campaign against a Democratic candidate for president. Oh, but I forgot – how many millions were given to fund the Whitewater “investigation”?

The Republican-led House has devolved into “Lord of the Flies” – a direct result of Republicans gerrymandering districts across the country.

It’s too bad that Jim Webb dropped out of the Democrat presidential race. He was the only sensible candidate.

I see Canada elected a Liberal prime minister. Too bad Kansas can’t do the same thing with our governor.

I don’t have a problem with the conservative agenda, but I detest being governed by rank amateurs. First the sales tax hike and sin taxes. Now the reduced mortgage deduction. This is the least conservative Legislature ever.

I have been an independent contractor for 45 years as a real estate agent and, believe me, we do pay our share of taxes. We pay state, federal and double the Social Security tax that is taken out of the checks of people who work for companies.

One measure of Wichita turning the corner will be when the young people who go away to college come back to live. Right now very few return, as there are no jobs to attract them back.

Let us all hope that if Atlantis is ever found it’s nowhere near Muslim extremists such as ISIS, or they’ll just blow the find up.

Baseball is a lovely game.
