Though two-term Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, had been mentioned as a potential chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, gave the job this week to Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., a long-term committee member who has been in Congress since 2002. Heather Denker, Pompeo’s communications director, told The Eagle editorial board that the congressman “was honored to be considered for the post” and “will continue to place a lot of his time and effort into keeping America safe.” Pompeo, a member of the special panel on the Benghazi terrorist attacks, expects to continue serving not only on the Intelligence Committee but also on the Energy and Commerce Committee. – Rhonda Holman
