Huelskamp has come around on Boehner

Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler, famously helped lead an unsuccessful effort to oust Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, as House speaker in 2013 and, when asked earlier this year by Roll Call about his relationship with Boehner, said, “I don’t smoke and I don’t suntan.” But Huelskamp told CNN last week that although “the speaker and I have our disagreements” he would vote for Boehner this time. Huelskamp also told Roll Call about the speaker: “I like what I’m seeing,” suggesting the GOP’s historic success at the polls this month sent a “strong message” to Republicans and “emboldens” Boehner. He won his third term as speaker on a voice vote Thursday; Rep. Lynn Jenkins, R-Topeka, was re-elected as conference vice chairwoman. – Rhonda Holman
