Bringing some welcome certainty to the area’s signature industry, the modified agreement between Textron Aviation and the state strengthens the company’s commitment to south-central Kansas with assurance that the new Cessna Citation Longitude business jet will be built in Wichita and that future turboprop aircraft will be developed here. Announced Thursday, the agreement also answers the question of how Textron’s 2014 acquisition of Beechcraft Corp. would affect the 10-year deal struck in 2010 by the state, city, county and then-Hawker Beechcraft, especially its jobs minimum. Now the Wichita City Council and Sedgwick County Commission need to do their parts to update the deal and maintain this crucial public-private partnership. – Rhonda Holman
