A U.S. House vote on reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank could happen later this month. The charter for Ex-Im Bank, which helps finance and insure U.S. exports, expired July 1. Supporters of the bank, which include Wichita-area aviation manufacturers, say it is essential to facilitating certain exports and competing with other countries (which have their own export banks). But critics, which include Koch-backed groups, contend it is a form of corporate welfare. The Senate – including Kansas Republicans Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts – voted in July to reauthorize the bank. Supporters of the bank in the House – which don’t include Reps. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, and Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler/Hutchinson – are using a procedural move to force a floor vote. – Phillip Brownlee
