Medicaid expansion benefiting Iowa
The re-election of Gov. Sam Brownback risks killing Medicaid expansion in Kansas, but Iowa has provided another example of the potential benefits. The Iowa Hospital Association reported that in the first six months after expansion in January, the year-to-year number of hospitalized patients lacking health insurance plummeted by 46 percent, while hospitals’ charity-care costs fell 18.5 percent. – Rhonda Holman
