Opinion Line (Nov. 15)

Some Republican said the sun is shining on Kansas. I submit that Sam Brownback’s policies can be likened to holding a magnifying glass over those of us he did not give a huge tax break and watching us burn to a crisp. That’s not the kind of sunshine we need.

Does anyone know of a good bankruptcy lawyer? Looks like Brownback is going to need to visit with one.

To the reader whose daughter in Oklahoma paid 43-cents-a-gallon less for gas than we do and who questioned if we were being gouged: Have you ever driven on any roads in Oklahoma?

Oklahoma has a lower state tax on gas. If Brownback wanted to help out everybody in Kansas, and not just big business, he would drop the 24-cents-a-gallon state gas tax.

Have you noticed that the liberals have quit whining about the Koch brothers since the election is over?

Voters who consider only their own personal gain and ignore moral convictions, such as the sanctity of human life, are why this country is in such a mess.

Those who rail against the liberals need a history lesson to be reminded that many of the common expected benefits of employment would not have happened in a conservative government.

Let’s hope that Bob Knight runs for Wichita mayor, as he knew how to read a budget and set priorities at City Hall.

We just went through another pseudo holiday for veterans. If a vet has a job and doesn’t work for the government or a bank, he or she must work on Veterans Day. If we really want to honor veterans, we should at least give the day off to working veterans.

I hope the nonveteran government employees who didn’t work on Veterans Day enjoyed their day off. I worked to pay for their pensions. Have a nice Thanksgiving holiday, too.

After the Veterans Day parade, my husband and I stopped for lunch. My husband was in his uniform. I was not. Most people also shook my hand when told I was a veteran also. Don’t assume the female spouse is not. These two vets thank whoever bought our lunch.

I’d like to thank the lady who helped pay for my candy for trick-or-treaters at Aldi when I had forgotten my debit card. I had more than 50 young visitors at my door again this year.

Now that the World Series and election are over, can anyone figure out how to get rid of the two characters on the Sonic ads?

The “Red and Rover” comic series is absolutely endearing – the best ever.
