Opinion Line (Oct. 15)

House Speaker Mike Pompeo – sounds great to me. Veteran, businessman, principled conservative, smart and hardworking. What else could we hope for?

This Republican appreciated watching five adults intelligently, respectfully and honestly debate the issues most important to our country. It may be time to change parties.

It is interesting to watch all-white Democratic candidates chastise the supposedly racist Republican candidates during their debate – yes, the Republicans who include one African-American and two Hispanic candidates.

I am not tired of President Barack Obama – and I will not listen to criticism of him from anyone who voted for George W. Bush.

How can Kansans question the need to support and fund our education system? We have a governor and legislators who cannot do basic math. And we have WSU alumni who cannot read a chapel plaque about “all creeds” being welcome and who evidently failed to learn the kindergarten lesson about sharing.

The meetings of our full-time, highly paid County Commission start with games and end with a history lesson from Commissioner Karl Peterjohn. The most important item at Wednesday’s very short meeting was approval of employees’ 2016 holiday schedule.

Oh, goody – they’re going to start on I-235 and Kellogg soon. Come on, complainers – give it your best shot.

I’m disappointed that I didn’t know about the noise that is allowed until all hours from the Field of Screams at Prairie Pines before I built my retirement home in Maize.
