Opinion Line Extra (Oct. 14)
Too many people give up and say, “That’s just the way it is.” Well, I say, “Put your foot down and change the world.”
Yes, the world is changing, but not for the better.
Rep. Tim Huelskamp appeared on C-SPAN to complain about those seeking the job of House speaker. To listen to him, John Boehner was biologically linked to Nancy Pelosi. If Huelskamp feels that way, why doesn’t he toss his hat into the ring?
Give me a break. How dumb do legislators think we are that we believe their line of bull that the freebies from lobbyists don’t influence how they vote? Makes me want to barf.
Our good ole boys in Topeka must think the budget worries are over, spending a million dollars more than needed on an efficiency study. Maybe the lobbyist will make up the gap buying lunch and dinners for the poor of Kansas.
Brownback’s spokeswoman calls the ACA “morally reprehensible” while the governor dips into the money made available by the act to prop up his disastrous economic policies. It seems like, “I’ll be happy to use the money to help my political stance, but not a dime will go to those who need it.”
How many defenseless students and faculty have to die before it starts to dawn on people that only law-abiding individuals with concealed-carry permits – who might have been able to prevent or at least minimize a tragedy – will voluntarily disarm themselves in school “gun-free zones,” becoming as defenseless as everyone else?
How about we treat every young man who wants to buy a gun like every woman who wants to get an abortion – waiting period, parental permission, a note from his doctor proving he understands what he’s about to do, and watch a video about the effects of gun violence?
Perhaps the killings in large urban areas would get attention if the media would extend their efforts to cover the killings as they do school shootings.
My baker can’t bake, but he agrees with with me politically.
I’m tired hearing about gays, Muslims, Islam, ISIS, Iran, Iraq, Russia, the pope, Black Lives Matter and everything in between.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that the spray water in splash parks will rinse any contaminants (for example, diarrhea, vomit and urine) down into the water holding area and the water will be recycled, possibly causing outbreaks of illness.
It’s coming – a new sign at the state line: “Welcome to Westar, formerly known as Kansas!”
Westar’s hatchet men were in our neighbor’s yard absolutely butchering their tree. This happened to the neighbor on the other side of us in a previous attack, and a beautiful tree died as a result.
