Opinion Line (Nov. 13)

I believe Sam Brownback is and will be an excellent governor. He will not let the children down, and will be thoughtful in every decision he makes – fiscal, judicial, women’s rights, etc. His interest is in all Kansans, not just the right-wing conservatives.

So the state faces $279 million in further spending cuts. Funny how they kept that quiet until after the election.

Brownback’s plan has now become painfully clear. His tax cuts for the wealthy were not to create jobs but to force the state government to become smaller by pleading poverty due to lack of revenue.

If Brownback had had the foresight to accept expanded Medicaid, he could be siphoning those funds to plug the state’s budget hole right now.

Wichita city government shouldn’t have been surprised by the failure of the sales tax proposal. The city’s previous crony capitalism referendum, the Ambassador Hotel tax giveaway, was also soundly rejected by voters.

More wasted money. I can give Go Wichita a new marketing slogan for Wichita for $50: “Leadership Needed Now” or “Monetary Donations Wanted.”

Wichita school administrators plan to move into the Southeast High building. They said we needed a new school because Southeast was in such bad shape that it would cost too much to repair. Now we’ll pay for a new school and a repair bill.

The most powerful nation in the world, and we fill our most important government positions by the need to have a woman or an African-American or another minority in such a position. How much longer can the U.S. survive with such stupidity not only allowed but applauded?

It is a sad day in America when someone votes for a candidate solely on their pro-life or pro-choice status.

Has it occurred to even one person that investigating the integrity of the statewide voting machines might be a good idea?

I think the fall and spring time changes need to come up for a vote. I would vote for leaving more daylight in the evenings all year long. Darkness brings on the blues.

Please bring your pets indoors if possible. If not, make a warm place for them in the garage or doghouse. Add extra straw or blankets to keep them warm. They depend on you to survive this winter.
