According to the Bipartisan Index, released in May by the Lugar Center and Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, the 1st District’s Tim Huelskamp is the worst member of the House when it comes to working across party lines. The 2nd District’s Lynn Jenkins came in 166th, followed by the 3rd District’s Kevin Yoder and the 4th District’s Mike Pompeo in 207th and 254th places, respectively. In the Senate, Kansas’ Jerry Moran ranked ninth and Pat Roberts came in 63rd. Having campaigned in 2010 on a promise “to stick it to Obama and Pelosi,” Huelskamp might take pride in scraping the bottom in the Bipartisan Index now. But as former Republican Sen. Richard Lugar said about the index: “Bills are being written not to maximize their chances of passage, but to serve as legislative talking points. Taking a position is not the same thing as governing.” – Rhonda Holman
