If the Legislature thinks it is important to know whether school board members across the state have family members who work for school districts, then I want to know if they have family members who work for any other agency that receives state funding.
Gays and lesbians: Your sexual orientation is none of my business. Will you please stop telling me about it?
People aren’t either 5 feet tall or 6 feet tall. There’s a range of height. I think the same is true for sexual orientation. It’s not always a case of being 100 percent gay or straight.
Thanks to Americans for Prosperity’s Jeff Glendening for hitting the nail on the head on Medicaid expansion (Oct. 1 Letters to the Editor). Growing the scope of Medicaid to fund hospitals is ridiculous. Affordability (including premiums) is the solution, not more government in health care.
The American educational establishment has taught two generations of our children that all legal behavior is acceptable. Thus, there is no longer any shame in being obese and we are fatter for it.
The winning ticket for 2016 is Biden-Warren. Even if Joe Biden only serves one term, it would create the perfect opportunity for a woman president and a win-win for the U.S. Don’t tell the Republicans. Wouldn’t want to interrupt the “progress” their front-runner is making.
By April 15 I became familiar with what the politicians meant by calling Social Security an entitlement. I was entitled to pay federal income tax on 80 percent and state income tax on 100 percent of my Social Security.
You could quadruple the taxes of the 1 percent and they’d still be the 1 percent.
Congressional members of opposing parties should feed the homeless together. The only discussion allowed should be how to help others.
If President Obama thinks the fruit of the “Arab Spring,” ISIS, is just the “JV squad,” and now has turned over competing with it to the Putin-led Russians, what does that make him? Yes, Virginia, Obama is the eternal “B-squad” player.
For some, the library is the only source of knowledge “within reach.” If you can’t find a book on the shelf, they can borrow it from another library so you can get exactly what you’re looking for. It’s up-to-date knowledge. The library also offers computer and Internet use.
Wichita’s VA hospital has a stellar on-site hospice unit. It was a godsend after I was in an auto accident and my daughter and I could no longer care for Grandpa at home. The hospice staff truly were angels.
