Opinion Line (Nov. 11)

I wonder if the city of Wichita will tell us how much it cost taxpayers to promote the sales tax, in terms of both direct and indirect (staff time) costs.

If the Wichita City Council cared more about doing what’s right for this city than about re-election, it would immediately pass a property tax increase for the services we need to fund. The voters don’t want to pay for our self-defined priorities with sales tax.

The dilemma last week’s election made clear is “how do you cure stupid?” – as in voters who continue to vote against their self-interest, hyperpartisans who care not about individual qualifications, and couch potatoes who only get information from cable news.

The new Senate should pass the nearly 300 bills the House has already submitted and let the president explain to the public why he vetoes them. Elections have consequences.

I have finally figured out how the president does math. If I sold you a cheeseburger for twice what it cost yesterday but it would have been triple that tomorrow, I'm saving you money.

Someone should explain to Sen. Pat Roberts that touting his peacetime Marine Corps military service while passing legislation sending our kids and grandkids off to die in Third World toilets and ignoring the needs of returning war veterans and VA hospital failures just alienates veterans who served in war.

Once again Kansans voted against their own self-interests. Kansans must like economic recessions and want another financial collapse, more terrorist attacks and more budget deficits.

Moderate Republican politicians (read “RINOs“) for Paul Davis should just go away. Better yet, they should reregister as the Democrats they really are.

I think Republicans won only because Kris Kobach disenfranchised 23,000 voters.

How many more liberal judges can they find to overturn the voter ID laws in Kansas and Arizona?

If you didn’t vote, you don’t have the right to whine about who got elected. If you did vote, want some cheese to go with that whine?

Merchants: Could we please celebrate this country’s Thanksgiving holiday first, before hammering the public with the Christmas holiday?

Finally, we don’t have to hear about OU and K-State being in the college football playoffs. Can you say “overrated”?
