Nothing funny about consequences for online school threats

Threats made on social media against K-12 schools must be taken seriously, with additional security, prompt disclosure to students and parents, and rescheduling of events if necessary. Those thought to be responsible must be arrested and prosecuted, to send a clear message that there is nothing funny about the consequences that follow such behavior. Credit authorities in the Wichita, Maize, El Dorado and Winfield school districts as well as area law enforcement for trying to shut down the recent rash of online threats to schools. Praise also is due the students who have alerted authorities to social media threats. – Rhonda Holman
